Frequently asked questions

What we print, what we need from you, and how long it takes.

What can you print?

Full-color 3D prints for individuals and small businesses: figurines and collectibles, dimensional signage, costumes and props, architectural models, visual aids, prototypes, and functional or display models.

What file types do you accept?

In order of preference: 3MF; OBJ with its MTL and texture files (PNG, JPG or BMP); WRL; GLB; STL; STEP.

I don’t have a 3D file. Can you still help?

Yes. Our team can design and model your part from an idea or a drawing, and convert existing designs into the right file type for printing.

How big can a print be?

The largest part we can print is 190 × 332 × 248 mm (about 7.5 × 13 × 9.8 inches).

How thin can the walls be?

Design walls at least 0.8 mm thick.

What material do you print in?

HP 3D High Reusability PA 12, a nylon made for HP’s Multi Jet Fusion printers. It’s tough, strong, slightly flexible and impact resistant, and our HP Jet Fusion 580 prints it in full CMYK color.

Do the prints need painting?

No. Color is printed into the part across the full CMYK range. If you want a different look, we also offer full color paint, clear coating and vapor polishing.

How long does it take?

Our turnaround is 10 days by default, often within 48 hours. Let us know your deadline when you ask for a quote.

How much will my project cost?

Every project is quoted individually. Send us your file or idea through our Get A Quote page and we’ll get back to you.

Can you make hundreds or thousands of pieces?

Custom Color 3D is built for one-offs, prototypes and boutique projects. For ongoing or high-volume production, our sister company MassPersona can help.

Where are you?

1657 N Kostner Ave, Chicago, IL 60639. We share the facility with our sister company, MassPersona.

Still have a question?
